GENERAL MOTORS DATA LINK RADIOS
ABOUT GENERAL MOTORS DATA LINK RADIOS

GM FIRST USED A DATA LINK RADIO IN 2000 IN MOST CHEVY CARS, THE RADIO LINKS WITH THE VEHICLE COMPUTER, IT HAS 2 FUNCTIONS, THE FIRST IS SECURITY, ONCE THE RADIO LINKS WITH THE COMPUTER IT WILL ONLY WORK WITH THAT VEHICLE, IF YOU TRY TO PUT THAT RADIO IN A DIFFERENT VEHICLE IT WILL BE LOCKED, PUT IT BACK IN THE SAME VEHICLE IT WILL WORK. THE OTHER FUNCTION IS TO CLEAR CODES AND CHANGE SETTING THE RADIO IS USED TO CHANGE THE SETTING ON HOW YOUR KEYLESS ENTRY OR ALARM SYSTEM WILL WORK, AND USED TO CLEAR WARRING CODES LIKE LOW OIL. THE RADIO IS A KEYBOARD TO THE VEHICLE BCM COMPUTER

MOST DATA LINK RADIOS MOUNT THE SAME AND HAVE THE SAME PLUGS, SOME VEHICLES LIKE PONTIAC AND BUICK'S USE A DOCK AND LOCK OR DIFFERENT MOUNTS. THEY ARE NOT ALL INTERCHANGEABLE, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE PART NUMBER FOR YOUR VEHICLE, MOST WILL CODE DOWN, BUT NOT UP, THIS MEANS THAT A 2002 PART NUMBER, WILL NOT WORK IN A 2003 AND UP, BUT A 2004 PART NUMBER WILL WORK IN A 2000-2004 OF THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE.

ALL DATA LINK RADIOS HAVE TO BE CODED. THE EARLY MODEL VEHICLES, 2000-2002 WOULD CODE THEMSELVES THE RADIO CODED TO THE COMPUTER BY JUST PLUGGING IT IN, IT HAS TO BE UNLOCKED RADIO. SOME 2002 AND ALL 2003 AND UP VEHICLES, THE CARS NEED AN UNLOCKED RADIO AND THE TRUCKS HAVE TO BE CODED TO THE VEHICLE, ON THE CARS THE UNLOCKED RADIO WILL WORK BUT IT TAKE A FEW WEEKS TO LEARN YOU VIN YOU MAY GET A CAL ERR TILL IT LEARN THE VIN (SEE BELOW ABOUT CAL ERR) ON THE TRUCKS OUR RADIOS OR CODED FOR PLUG AND PLAY YOU HAVE TO GET THE RADIO CODED FOR YOUR TRUCK, SEE OUR PAGE ON ON SPEAKER CODES.
A USED DATA LINK RADIO WILL ALWAYS BE LOCKED, IT WILL HAVE TO BE UNLOCKED AND RECODED BY A DEALER, The average cost a dealer charges to unlock a radio is $60.00 (cars) and to recode a radio is $120.00. (trucks) THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH BUYING A USED RADIO IS THAT YOU CAN'T TEST IT TILL ITS BEEN UNLOCKED AND CODED, AND IF THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE RADIO SHIPPING DAMAGE OR DEFECTED FROM THE START. THE DEALER WILL STILL CHARGE YOU FOR CODING, IF YOU HAVE THE WRONG PART NUMBER, YOUR DEALER WON'T KNOW AND WILL STILL CHARGE YOU, THERE DOING THE LABOR YOU REQUESTED AND ITS NOT THERE FAULT IF THE RADIO IS DEFECTED OR THE WRONG PART NUMBER, EVEN IF THE RADIO YOU BOUGHT HAS A WARRANTY, YOU WILL BE CHARGED AGAIN TO CODE THE REPLACEMENT,

WE DEAL WITH FACTORY SERVICE CENTERS THAT CAN PRE-CODE A DATA LINK RADIO IN THE TRUCKS TO LEARN YOUR VIN NUMBER AND CODE IT SELF TO YOUR VEHICLE BCM COMPUTER IN THE TRUCKS THAT HAVE TO BE CODED BY PCMs, ON A PCMs CODING THE DEALER WILL LOAD THE VEHICLES CODES INTO A TECH 2 AND THEN UPLOAD THEM TO GM, NEW CODES OR DOWNLOADED INTO THE TECH 2 AND THERE UPLOADED INTO THE VEHICLE THAT WHY TRUCKS RADIO CODING RUNS MORE THEN CARS, ON THE CARS THE DEALER ONLY HAS TO UNLOCK THE RADIO WITH THE TECH 2 AND RECODE THE RADIO TO THE VEHICLE IT TAKES HALF THE TIME TO UNLOCK THE RADIO FOR A CAR THEN TO RECODE THE RADIO FOR A TRUCK THAT WHY TRUCK CODING COST TWICE AS MUCH ALL OUR UNLOCKED AND CODED DATA LINKS RADIO OR TESTED, AND SET UP FOR(PLUG AND PLAY) WE WARRANTY ALL OUR RADIO FOR A YEAR, AND IF THEY DO NEED TO BE REPAIRED WE PAY SHIPPING BOTH WAYS, MOST OTHER RADIO SELLER ONLY OFFER 60 TO 90 DAYS WARRANTY AND DO NOT OFFER AN UNLOCKED OR CODED RADIO. WE CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE PART NUMBER YOU ORDER WILL WORK IN YOUR VEHICLE. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO PAY A DEALER TO UNLOCK AND CODE ONE OF OUR RADIO UNLESS YOU DECIDED THAT YOU WANT TO REINSTALL IT IN A DIFFERENT VEHICLE, ALSO WITH THIS PROCESS WE CAN INSTALL SOME MODELS OF RADIOS THAT THE DEALER CAN NOT INSTALL, FOR EXAMPLE GM DOES NOT OFFER A CASS/CD IN THE WT TRUCKS AND CAN NOT CODE THAT RADIO INTO THAT TRUCK, WITH THIS PROCESS THE CASS/CD RADIO WILL PLUG RIGHT INTO THE WT TRUCK AND CODE ITSELF THE SAME AS THE OTHER RADIOS, THE ONLY INFORMATION WE NEED TO PRE-CODE A RADIO IS THE SPEAKER CODE FOUND ON THE Service Parts Identification label that is found in the glove box. THIS CODE MAKE SURE THAT THE RADIO IS CODED FOR THE RIGHT SPEAKER SYSTEM IN YOUR VEHICLE. (WE CAN ONLY SELL A CODED RADIOS IF YOU HAVE A RADIO THAT WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM US YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER, THIS IS THE POLICES OF THE SOURCE THAT WE BUY THE RADIOS FROM THEY WILL NOT CODE OR UNLOCK ANY RADIO THAT DID NOT SELL)

THE NEW BODY STYLE LAN RADIOS WITH THE ONE BIG KNOB IN THE CENTER USED IN THE NEW 2007 AND UP TRUCKS AND CARS WORK THE SAME AS THE CLASS 2 RADIOS, UNLOCKED FOR CARS AND CODED FOR TRUCKS. THE CLASS 2 11-bit LAN RADIO KNOB ON THE RIGHT AND KNOB ON THE LEFT USED IN MALIBU, G6 AND COBALT, JUST NEED TO BE UNLOCKED.

(UNLOCKED RADIOS MAY FLASH CAL ERR) After you install an unlocked radio it may flash Cal Err for a few Seconds when you turn the vehicle on, This will go away after the radio learn the vehicle VIN number, how long it takes depends on the counter in the radio. The radio will not fully learn your VIN number till the counter is at 0, When these radios or unlocked they have to put the counter at a random number to unlock them, The counter goes from 0 to 100. Every time you cycle (start the vehicle) its counts backwards, once its back to 0 it will fully learn you VIN number and the cal err will go away the average time is about 2 week depending on where the counter was set at and how often the vehicle is started in a day. The radio will function normally during this time it will only flash the cal err when you start the vehicle and the thief light may not flash till the counter is reset.

(IF YOUR LED LIGHT IS NOT WORKING AFTER THE RADIO IS PLUG IN ON A BRAND NEW RADIO)THIS PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS ON BRAND NEW NEVER BEEN INSTALLED RADIOS. THE LED LIGHT IS A THEFT FEATURE THAT FLASHES WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED OFF, THE RADIO HAS A COUNTER IN IT AND FOR THE RADIO TO LEARN THE COMPLETE VIN NUMBER THE COUNTER HAS TO BE AT 0. DURING MANUFACTURE THE COUNTER IS SET TO 255 SO THE RADIO CAN BE TESTED WITH OUT HAVING A VIN NUMBER OR BCM COMPUTER CONNECTED TO IT, THE COUNTER IS THEN RESET TO 0 FOR INSTALLATION INTO THE VEHICLE, (THIS COUNTER IS DIFFERENT THEN THE COUNTER THAT CAUSES THE CAL ERR) ON BRAND NEW RADIO DIRECT FROM THE FACTORY NEVER INSTALLED IN A VEHICLE, SOMETIMES THE COUNTER IS NOT RESET ALL THE WAY TO 0. ONCE INSTALLED IN YOUR VEHICLE IF THE COUNTER IS NOT AT 0 THE LED LIGHT WILL NOT WORK TILL THE COUNTER GOES BACK TO 0 ONCE AT 0 THE COUNTER STOPS COUNTING AND THE RADIO IS COMPLETE CODED AND LED LIGHT WILL START WORKING, EVERY TIME THE KEY IS TURNED ON AND LEFT ON FOR AT LEAST 3 SECONDS THE COUNTER COUNTS DOWN 1 DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION THE COUNTER WILL COUNT DOWN TO 0 AFTER ENOUGH IGNITIONS CYCLES, THE AVERAGE TIME IS ABOUT 2 WEEKS DEPENDING ON WHERE THE COUNTER WAS AT AND HOW MUCH YOU USE YOUR VEHICLE,
